One of the things that I don’t get to do as often as I like when I’m home is go out for Sunday brunch. There is just something about getting ready on a Sunday morning to gather with friends over a breakfast cocktail and a delicious breakfast. Does anyone else feel this way? After much research and consideration, I made reservations at Belga, a restaurant in the Cow Hollow neighborhood of San Francisco location on Union Street.
What really drew me in to Belga were the photos on their website. The restaurant looked cozy and the food looked beautiful and delicious. Belga is a Belgium-inspired Brasserie serving up a fusion of Belgian, French and German fare. We were greeted by out waitress with a smile and we ordered our beverages and Brioche Beignets to start. If you’ve ever been to New Orleans and had a beignet then you know how delicious they can be. The beignets at Belga were light and airy with a lightly sweetened crème fraiche for dipping.
For the entrees I ordered the Belgian waffles with fruit, maple syrup and chantilly cream and my husband ordered the pork schnitzel, spätzle braised cabbage and sunny eggs. My waffles were so light and fluffy with just the right about of crunch in each bite. The berries were fresh and sweet and the light chantilly cream was the perfect way to top them off. The pork schnitzel was perfectly crisp and was more than enough to feed a grown man!
Overall our brunch was delicious and the service at Belga was impeccable. I thought about ordering a second mimosa but I thought I would save myself for our trip to Flores the was to follow.
Flores is another concept from the same restaurant group that owns Belga. Flores is a Mexican restaurant featuring handmade tortillas and just started serving brunch. The restaurant features beautiful, earthy colors and a menu that will make your mouth water.
While the menu looked delicious we just opted for one of their craft cocktails from the bar to top off our brunch from Belga. Their menu features signature cocktails, an assortment of tequilas and house-made margaritas. I opted for a passion fruit mimosa and my husband went with a tequila cocktail featuring a grapefruit smoked salt rim. The cocktails were beautiful in color and the flavors were robust. The best part about Flores; receiving chiclets with our check!
If you’re in San Francisco and looking for a brunch spot or a place for cocktails, check out Belga and Flores on Union Street! You certainly won’t be disappointed by the atmosphere, service and the delicious food!
