For the longest time I never pictured myself to be a West coast type of girl. I grew up in the Midwest but spent a lot of time traveling to the East coast and always found myself on airplanes heading to New York City or Boston. I longed to live there. And then I met my husband, a West coast type of guy who was also from the Midwest but who wanted to live in California. And I fell in love. Both with him, and California. And this love is what inspired this delicious California Club Sandwich.
One of the things that I love about California are the light, fresh flavors. Most of our produce in the Midwest comes from California, especially during the winter in Wisconsin. I am so excited for spring and summer to come so that these fresh flavors are available at my fingertips! In the winter months I turn to comfort foods but when spring hits I turn to sandwiches packed with fresh flavors. I love sandwiches because they are so perfect for an on-the-go person like myself.
This sandwich starts with two slices of Pepperidge Farm® 15 Grain bread. I love that this bread is so hearty and delicious and keeps me full until dinner. I spread Hellmann’s® Real Mayonnaise onto one slice of bread and topped it off with a slice of gouda cheese. I am from Wisconsin, after all! I love using Hellmann’s® Real Mayonnaise because it is made with real, simple ingredients and cage-free eggs. I piled on the Hillshire Farm® Thin Sliced Honey Ham which features no artificial flavors or byproducts. I felt like using this brand of meat was very ‘California’ of me! Next came fresh slices of tomato and avocado to complete this 6-ingredient sandwich. You can just slice the sandwich in half if you’d like, but to make a real ‘club’ sandwich I went for cutting it again and stacking it up with decorative picks.
This sandwich has spring written all over it and is the perfect lunch option for a picnic or a lunchbox for work. I picked up all of the ingredients for my sandwich at my local Walmart store in one trip. There is nothing that I love more than convenience! - 4 Slices Pepperidge Farm® 15 Grain bread
- 2 tablespoons Hellmann’s® Real Mayonnaise
- 4 ounces Hillshire Farm® Thin Sliced Honey Ham
- 2 slices gouda cheese
- ½ medium avocado, sliced
- 2 large tomato slices
- Toast the bread. Spread 1 tablespoon of Hellmann’s® Real Mayonnaise onto 1 side of 2 slices of bread. Top each bread slice containing mayo with one slice of gouda cheese, 2 ounces Hillshire Farm® Thin Sliced Honey Ham, 1 slice of tomato and half of the avocado slices.
- Place the second slice of bread over the ingredients and cut each sandwich into halves or quarters. Serve immediately.
