I’m so excited to be circling back to my Chicago trip today to share with you all of the details of our amazing meal at Gibson’s Bar & Steakhouse! I’ve passed this restaurant on multiple trips to the city and was happy that I was finally going to be able to give it a try. I’m a fan of a good steak so my mouth was watering for days when I found out that I would be dining at their Rush Street location. I’m pleased to note that my dinner did not disappoint!

The History

Gibson’s has been in Chicago since 1989 serving up amazing steak and seafood for 27 years! Their walls are covered with images of the endless celebrities and notable names that have visited over the years. They now feature 3 locations in the Chicago area including Rosemont and Oak Brook. The secret to their success is in their USDA Gibsons Prime Angus Beef. They are the first and only restaurant in the US to have their own USDA beef program! They only work with a handful of carefully selected farms in the upper Midwest and to get superior taste, tenderness and consistency with their steaks.

The Food

Speaking of their steaks, they certainly make sure that you are full by the time you leave and are leaving with a bag of leftovers. Their colossal portions are one of the other notable things about this restaurant. They are on board with the ‘go big or go home’ mentality. As we sat down for our meal I watched as Flinstone-sized steaks were passed around the restaurant and cake slices the size of my head were served. I’m not even joking. A slice of cake is really more like 1/2 of a cake. But more on that later.

The hustle and bustle of the restaurant can be attributed to their attentive and knowledgeable waitstaff that makes you feel like you’re in an old world supper club. The strive to make sure you know what you’re getting and that you’re satisfied with your entire experience. After a quick lesson in their beef and a showing of the cuts, I went with the Filet Mignon. Just the 10 ounce, not the whopping 16 ounce bone-in cut. My husband opted for the W.R. Chicago Cut which is their massive 22 ounce bone-in ribeye. We chose sides of mashed potatoes and asparagus and a crab cake starter from their sister restaurant, Hugo’s Frog Bar. The restaurant is located right next door and they were more than accommodating to get us a crab cake from the menu.

I can’t say enough good things about the food. The crab cake was practically 100% crab, none of those fillers. My steak was oh-so-juicy and perfectly cooked medium from top to bottom. I tried a piece of the ribeye and it was like eating a pat of butter. And the sides filled in our gaps perfectly. Oh, and you get a house or Caesar salad with your meal. I couldn’t have asked for a more amazing dinner. And then somehow I found room for dessert…

When you see an $18 slice of cake on a menu you are probably going to wonder if it’s made of gold. Well, it wasn’t made of gold but it was piled high on the plate and could feed a small army. Again, you will not leave dinner at Gibson’s without a doggie-bag! We decided to share the Chocolate Mousse Pie with a cup of coffee to top off our feast.

Overall Thoughts

My feelings following my visit to Gibson’s are that I would totally head back for another amazing experience. The service and the food did not lack whatsoever and the ambience of the restaurant is rather memorable. If you’re in Chicago and looking for a special occasion restaurant or are just looking for a delicious meal, look no further than Gibson’s Bar & Steakhouse for an experience to write home about! You can also check out their other restaurants too: Quartino’s, Hugo’s Frog Bar and Luxbar.
