I come from an Italian background complete with a last name that means ‘vinegar’ and grew up eating fresh pasta and gnocchi. Fast forward to my married life where I now have a German last name and regularly celebrate Oktoberfest and German foods like beer, brats and obatzda cheese. I’m not really complaining because I enjoy all three of those things! Our annual Oktoberfest party is coming up soon with our family and friends and this year I am bringing the ultimate Bavarian pretzel platter complete with homemade pretzels, obatzda cheese and mustard for dipping.

As I planned for this party and my pretzel platter I went directly to the World Market website because I know that they love to showcase worldly foods. Lucky for me they had an entire section devoted to Oktoberfest! I decided to head to my local store to pick up all of my goodies. I quickly found a German pretzel mix that I thought was perfect for making homemade pretzels. I’ve tried to make them on my own in the past and have found the dough to be quite finicky and finding lye in my area proved to be quite difficult. This mix had everything that I needed to make homemade pretzels, including the lye. Making these pretzels could not have been any easier, in fact, they turned out perfectly crunchy with a soft inside.

I also picked up some fun German beers from their vast selection so that I could bring some to the party to share and also because my recipe for Obatzda cheese calls for a dark German ale. I picked out some Alstertor Dusseldorf Mustard, Pilsner Crackers and pretzel sticks to complete with platter. After filling my cart with fun serving pieces and beer mugs I headed home to get my party on! I love that I can always rely on World Market to provide all of the entertaining essentials that my parties will require.
